Influence of Trapped Electrons on Ion-Acoustic soliton excitation in Plasma from a Localized Potential

A hybrid one dimensional electrostatic code is used for simulation of ion-acoustic soliton excitation in plasma. A positive localized potential is imposed as the non-stationary initial condition. Electron dynamics is considered kinetic and it is solved based on method of characteristics of Vlosov equation. Positive ions are cold and they obey fluid equations. The simulation results shows that after a while the initial potential profile disintegrates into several solitons. It is shown that the trapped electrons have significant impact on the non-stationary evolution and features of the solitons.
