Influence of target curvature on proton acceleration by circularly polarized laser in radiation pressure acceleration regime

Relativistic ion acceleration from thin foil targets irradiated by ultra intense laser pulse is investigated using VORPAL PIC simulation code. Concave, flat and convex foil targets are considered. Protons with higher peak energy are generated from concave foil and total charge accelerated is maximum from convex foil. The results can be attributed to geometrical effects as well as change in growth rate of foil deforming instabilities like Weibel and Rayleigh Taylor instabilities.
